Blind faith, or the lack of it, can be a dangerous thing. It can lead people to believe that nobody really knows what’s best for them, and that their life is destined to be unhappy. You have to look around you and see what other people are lacking in their lives. Then you have to give them what you have. You have to show grace.
You have to treat other people exactly how you want to be treated yourself… because if you have everything in life in your own little circle, then it doesn’t matter much if somebody else comes in and takes it away from you because they won’t know what to do with it. If you only look out for yourself, then when everybody comes in and steals your stuff all at once, you won’t even know what happened… but if somebody else came in and stole some of your stuff over a period of time, then you would know what was going on even if it happened right before your very eyes. So the answer is not only that we must always try to be good Samaritans when we see someone who needs help—but also that we must make sure that people see us as good Samaritans when they need us.
And the only way this happens is by showing grace—by giving others everything we have, by loving them sincerely and freely, by not holding anything back when it comes time for us to give something out… and by helping them build up their lives instead of tearing them down.
